Tamariki is the Maori word for children or kids. This is a focus for our programmes and we use the phrase, “Bringing out the child in everyone”. This enables us to work with all students young and old, adults included.
Safety and fun are Tamariki Tours Surf School’s number 1 priority. That is why we are a Surfing NZ and Water Safety NZ accredited Surf School. Our instructors are fully qualified and are Piha residents or past Piha residents who still surf here often and know Piha Beach like the back of their hand. Between our instructors we have surfed, swam, fished, life guarded and dived the waters off Piha pretty close to our whole lives. Along with other Surfing NZ and Water Safety NZ accredited Surf Schools in Piha, we have the most experienced instructors.

Tamariki Tours Surf School was established in 2009 by Matt Sheales, NZ born (Tangata Whenua) and fully registered Primary School teacher with 15 years teaching experience in West Auckland Schools. Matt has lived on the West Coast his entire life and resided at Piha Beach since 2008. His passion for teaching and the ocean guided him on the Tamariki Tours journey to where they are today. Providing surfing experiences to Tamariki (kids) of all ages, students with disabilities, International students, Tertiary students and also Whanau (family) groups.
